Collective Plastic Surgery
Oculoplastic surgery encompasses all procedures related to the cosmetic, corrective, and reconstructive surgery of the eye. These procedures can be performed to restore a more youthful appearance or to correct a condition, such as drooping eyelids, which may impact your vision.
Graves' Eye Disease
Graves’ disease is a condition caused by a hyperactive thyroid gland. Common symptoms include bulging, red, or swollen eyes. In addition, you may experience excess tearing, light sensitivity, or blurred vision. Our doctors can help you treat the thyroid condition causing Graves ’ disease, eliminating your symptoms.
Drooping Eyelids
Ptosis is a condition that results in drooping of the upper eyelid. In many instances, ptosis can interfere with your vision. When ptosis occurs at birth, your child will need to undergo surgery to tighten the levator muscle which lifts the eyelid. When ptosis develops in adulthood, surgery may be necessary to improve the condition. In minor cases, this may involve a small tuck in the levator muscle and eyelid. In severe cases, the levator muscle may need to be surgically reattached.
Eyelid Laxity
There are two potential conditions that may develop as a result of eyelid laxity. Ectropion occurs when the lower eyelid and eyelashes sag outward. Entropion occurs when the lower eyelid and eyelashes sag inward. Both of these conditions can result in excessive tearing, crusting of the eyelid, mucous discharge, and eye irritation. These conditions can be corrected with a minor surgical procedure.
Tear Duct Surgery
When your tear duct becomes clogged, it can cause excessive tearing and mucous discharge. In addition, these stagnant tears may become infected. Our doctors can perform surgery to open up your tear ducts, eliminating the painful symptoms you are experiencing.
Eyelid Cancer Treatment
Our doctors can treat a variety of tumors and cancers occurring in the eyelid and around the orbital area. Depending on the nature of your condition, treatment options may include radiation therapy or surgical excision. In some cases, reconstructive surgery may be necessary to repair your eyelid.
Blepharospasm Treatment
Blepharospasm is a condition associated with abnormal, involuntary blinking, twitching, or spasm of the eyelids. While there is no known cure for blepharospasm, there are several treatments which have proven effective at reducing the severity of symptoms. The most common treatment option is BOTOX® Cosmetic, which works to paralyze the eyelid muscles and reduce the severity of uncontrollable spasms.
